Roster 2023-2024: Tommy Spraggon

Billingham Stars final ‘senior’ signing for the coming season is the return of defenceman Tommy Spraggon. Stars fans will be delighted to see Tommy’s name on the Stars roster as he became almost indispensable during the successes of the last campaign, and his Coaches Player of the Year award at the end of season presentation night was testament to his outstanding work ethic and all-round positive attitude. Tommy finished last season on a high by representing Great Britain at the U18s World Championships (Division II Group A) in Serbia and coming away with a bronze medal. Tommy is really making his mark at this level now, and shows all the attributes needed to continue to grow and thrive.

Tommy shared his thoughts on coming back to his hometown team:

“I’m very excited to be back in a Billingham jersey this season and hopefully we can build on from last season. Potentially a lot of teams are going to be in the title race this year, I think it’ll be a disappointment if we don’t get any silverware this season as that’s our goal, especially after finishing second and making the Cup final. Obviously we’ve got a few young lads on the blue line but we’ve all collectively grown and matured in the way we play, so hopefully that leads to less goals conceded and more time in the offensive zone.

I couldn’t thank the fans enough for their support last season, especially away at Solway for the Cup final first leg, We had an impressive home record last season and I think the fans had a massive role in that, It’s great for myself and the lads to play in front of a packed out Forum and really gives us that bit of motivation/support we need in a close game.”
