PREVIEW: MATCH WEEK 30
BILLINGHAM STARS go into their final regular season National Ice Hockey League Moralee Division game still with goals to fulfil before they get their hands on the Champions trophy after their date with Whitley Warriors this evening at the Forum.
For the Warriors, an unlikely combination of results may see them move up the table with a win over their local rivals and second-placed Blackburn Hawks tomorrow, but in all likelihood a sixth-place finish is what Whitley can expect and a playoff tie against third-placed Solihull Barons. The bottom half of the table was not the finish the Warriors had in mind at the start of the season, but injuries, suspensions and unavailability have impacted their capacity to put out a full squad all year and results have suffered accordingly. When they do have a full bench, Whitley are a match for anyone so frustrating is probably the word to describe their campaign as it comes to an end. As they have been all season, the Warriors are hampered today by continuing suspension and injury woes, however everyone that can be available will want to play in the final Tees-Tyne derby of this campaign.

It’s time to celebrate at the Forum today as the Stars will lift the Moralee Division Championship trophy at the conclusion of the game. Billingham will be laser-focused on the Warriors before they let their hair down however, with a League wins record in their sights and the chance to sweep their nearest neighbours. Billingham expect to be at close to full strength with the prospect of a North East derby followed by an on-ice party one to savour for players and fans alike.
The Stars host Whitley Warriors in the National Ice Hockey League Moralee Division later today, face off 5.30pm. Tickets are priced at £14 adults, £10 concessions, £46 family [2+2].
