PREVIEW: MATCH WEEK 24
BILLINGHAM STARS hit the road for the first time in a month for a National Ice Hockey League (N) Moralee Division 1 clash with struggling Widnes Wild.
For Widnes, the prospect of reaching the playoffs by catching Leeds Knights 2 for the eighth and final spot is slipping from their grasp. With nine games remaining, Wild are six points adrift of the Knights and still looking over their shoulder at Sheffield Scimitars as they try to avoid the wooden spoon. Last nightβs trip to Blackburn Hawks was always going to be a tough ask and so it transpired, the home side running out comfortable 8-2 victors. Recent returnees Dani Haid and Flynn Massie have contributed to an uptick in performances but despite improving, Widnes have just the one win since the turn of the year and need to turn performances into points if they are to overhaul Leeds.

The chasing pack are ready to pounce should the Stars slip up as the season enters its final stages, but their destiny is still very much in their hands. Keeping the momentum going is just as important as the points with nine games to go, so it is imperative that Billingham approach each game in the same way regardless of the opponent. The Stars should be travelling with three full lines for todayβs fixture, and will be looking to make it four wins from four against the Wild in this final match-up between the two sides.
Billingham travel to Widnes Wild for a National Ice Hockey League (N) Moralee Division 1 fixture later this evening, face off 5.30pm.
