PREVIEW: CUP FINAL
IT’S A battle between the top two teams in National Ice Hockey League (N) Moralee Division 1 over two legs this weekend to settle the destiny of this season’s Moralee Cup.
The first leg in Lancashire today will see the Stars take on Blackburn Hawks in an arena that has dispensed pain and pleasure in not-so-equal measure over the years. The disastrous Cup Final of last season is still relatively fresh in the memory, not least the game in the North West which the Stars will be desperate to put right. To finally put their name on the trophy Billingham will have to overcome a Hawks outfit in serious scoring form, and one that has offensive talent in depth. Finding the back of the net is not an issue for Blackburn as over 200 League goals this campaign attests to, and shackling the Hawks danger men, especially on the larger pad in Lancashire, will be a top priority for the Stars over the weekend.

Billingham will be hoping it’s third time lucky in the Cup in this their third Final showing in a row. A good workout against Nottingham Lions last weekend has put the Stars on the right track and an almost full bench is expected to ice as the Teessiders look to go one better than their previous two attempts. Two highly offensive teams will meet to decide the fate of the Cup, it will be who marshals their back line the most effectively that will get their hands on the first real silverware of the season.
Billingham travel to Blackburn Hawks for the first leg of the Moralee Cup later today, face off 6pm. They then return to the Forum for the second leg tomorrow evening, face off 5.30pm. Tickets for tomorrow’s game are priced at £14 adults, £10 concessions, £46 family [2+2] – season ticket holders are reminded that this is NOT included in your pass.
